Why listening complements reading
Finish long files when the screen is tiring. Highlighting, speed control, and skip keep you on the same text.
Speechdash is a tool for files you already have. A lot of people say the same thing: they finish a long assignment when they hear it and see which sentence is playing. Reading alone is not always the bottleneck. Sometimes it is keeping your place, or pushing through a tired evening.
Listening is not cheating
Hearing the same words you would read is a second path through the content. Students use it to review. Parents use it so a child can hear homework again without reopening a PDF on a phone.
The goal is the same material, in a format that fits that day.
What actually helps
Sentence highlighting. Long pages blur. Highlighting locks your eyes to the line that is playing. When attention drifts, the playback bar gets you back.
Speed control. Dense paragraphs often need 0.5x. Review you already understand can run at 2x. You do not need one speed for the whole file.
Skip. Rubrics and citation blocks eat focus. Skipping mutes those lines. The source stays in the document.
Eco mode. Local desktop listening, unlimited, no credits. Useful when you replay the same chapter three evenings in a row.
A weekly routine
- Import the week's reading (PDF, URL, or pasted text)
- Skim in the editor and skip repeated instructions
- Listen once at 1x with highlighting on
- Re-listen hard sections at 0.5x
- Ask a question only on paragraphs you still do not understand
See Getting started for the first session.
When cloud or export makes sense
Eco mode is for a desktop browser. Switch to cloud or export when you need offline listening, a commute without a tab, or a file someone else can replay without your login.
Those features use credits. Everyday review can stay in Eco.
Try one file this week
Pick one PDF you have been putting off. Import it, turn on highlighting, and listen at half speed through the hardest section. If that feels easier than reading the same pages alone, keep the routine.
Parents: Help your child study with homework PDFs.
