Import a web page and listen
Paste a public URL, clean the article, and listen with highlighting. Language is detected among supported languages.
You do not need a PDF to start. Paste a public article URL on the homepage. Speechdash fetches readable text, detects the language, and prepares sentences for highlighting.
URL import is for content that already lives online: a news story, a public syllabus, a long essay you bookmarked months ago.
When a URL is the right import
- News and blog posts you want on a commute
- Public course pages with notes
- Long essays that are easier to finish by ear
If the page is behind a login or paywall, Speechdash cannot fetch it. Copy the text yourself, or export a PDF from the source when that is allowed.
What happens after you paste the link
Speechdash retrieves the page, strips common layout noise, and structures the body for playback. Language is detected among supported languages.
Fetching a public URL does not use credits. Eco playback after that stays free.
Clean up before you press play
Web imports often carry sidebars or related-article links. Open the editor and delete navigation, merge broken paragraphs, and fix headings.
Two minutes of editing usually beats ten minutes of skipping during playback.
Listen, then refine
Start in Eco mode on a desktop browser. Pick a voice and follow highlighting. Slow to 0.5x on dense sections. Use 2x when you already know the material.
Ask questions only on paragraphs you still do not understand. Questions use credits. Eco listening does not.
Credits vs free listening
| Step | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Fetching the URL | No credits for the import itself |
| Eco playback | Free, unlimited |
| Cloud playback | Uses credits |
| Audio export | Billed at generation time |
Pick a single article under ten minutes of reading time for a first try.
Tips
- Use the canonical article URL, not a print or AMP variant
- Public documentation pages usually import cleanly
- If detection picks the wrong language, change it in the rename dialog before you export
